Overview
Since I create content for NYC government agency, I can’t share my content, so this eLearning is an example of the type of training I create using an imagined learning challenge.
Challenge
My client came to me with a PowerPoint deck and asked me to turn into an eLearning. I used action mapping and learned that building managers were inspecting apartment units for lead-based paint but weren’t remediating the unit. Renters began filing complaints, citing concerns over their health, and my client was facing thousands of dollars in fines unless the units were remediated.
Solution
I conducted a needs analysis in a workgroup meeting with my subject matter expert and a building manager. In this meeting, I learned that my SME created the PowerPoint but never shared it with staff. The building manager, in fact, provided a bit more insight. She said that there has been no communication from leadership on this topic. Ever. As it turns out, new hires log all possible instances of lead-based paint but never test or remediate. We decided that the best course of action would be to communicate the resources and rules in an email blast to all building managers. Shortly thereafter, we will roll out a short eLearning to allow the learner to practice, which is what you see above.
